Due to the generous donations from both within and outside our community, SPWRC has been able to achieve amazing progress. South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, Inc. was founded in 1988 by Carol Lee. What started as an operation in Carol's kitchen and sunporch in those days, has blossomed into a robust community service-oriented wildlife care facility that handles nearly 2,000 creatures annually.

Our Center is run by volunteers to keep us going. Our center manager handles the day-to-day operations and assigns the tasks that need completion to a host of volunteers who have a special spot in their hearts for wildlife.

Several of our wonderful volunteers not only work full-time in their life's profession, but also manage to volunteer nearly equal time to the Center. Our top three volunteers in 2001, not counting Debbie Tennyson's devotion for 13 years, had given more than 6,000 person-hours to our cause. For this, we are forever grateful!

Because we are a volunteer organization, we depend on donations to keep us going. Even though we are required to maintain permits from the United States federal government and The State of Texas, we do not receive any funding whatsoever from any regulating agency. We are organized as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation. Even our wonderful CPA, Pat Harris, volunteers her time to maintain our books and records. Our Board of Directors exists because enough folks in our community care about what we do and how we get it done at the Center.

Donations made by the public at our fundraisers, open houses, and when dropping off animals for our care, keep us operating, day in and day out. We are up and running 365 days annually. On any given day throughout the year, you might pass the Center on Indiana Avenue at midnight and see lights on in our work building. It could be because a flock of ducks was rescued at a local playa lake at 10 PM and needed triage. It could be that some young mammals needed formula to maintain growth and strength. Whatever the reason, someone who cares is there on the spot to do whatever needs to be accomplished.

One hundred percent of the donations we receive from you will somehow benefit the wildlife in our care. Whether it is for necessary equipment such as incubators for infants, meat for our raptors, or construction for the expansion of our facilities, your generous gifts are what keep the Center operating. Not a single penny of any monetary donation is used to pay for anything that does not directly help our mission and the birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians that we see annually.

We thank you so much in advance for your generosity! Our financial disclosure reports may be reviewed at GuideStar .

Sincerely,

South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, Inc.
